CBDNorth Review: The Best Canadian CBD I’ve Tried

As a person who regularly deals with anxiety, CBD has become a part of my every day life. I use it on days that I am feeling overwhelmed, stressed out or just have generalized anxiety.

I first got into CBD for pain management related to women’s health and later realized all of the amazing benefits it has. After using it for a few months I started to notice the benefits that it had on, not only my pain, but also my stress levels and anxiety.

From there, I knew I wanted to keep using this product. I have anxiety when it comes to travelling to new places, going to the airport, or even meeting new people. Often times, my anxiety can be so overwhelming that it stops me from even going out.

I now am aware enough to recognize (most days) when my anxiety is debilitating, and thanks to this self-awareness I know to take CBD to help calm me down and allow me to live a normal life.

I have tried CBD from the dispensaries here in Ontario (since it’s legal in Canada) and have also tried many of the products from CBDNorth. I can definitely say that I’ve noticed a major difference between the products from CBDNorth in comparison to those from the dispensary, with CBDNorth being far superior. I’ll discuss the products that I have personally used from CBDNorth and give you an honest review on their products!

What is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid (a chemical substance) found in cannabis plants. In marijuana plants it is the second most active ingredient after THC, however the CBD used in CBDNorth products are from the hemp plant which contains no THC.

Why use CBD?

CBD may help with the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Pain
  • Sleep issues

What CBD does not do:

  • It doesn’t get you high
  • It’s not addictive

What is full spectrum CBD?

If you are doing research on if CBD is right for you, you may have come across ‘full spectrum’ CBD. Because CBD is just one cannabinoid, and there are over 100 different ones, Full Spectrum CBD includes other cannabinoids with the CBD. This is considered to be more effective because of the additional cannabinoids included, making it a more well rounded anxiety and pain reliever. In terms of CBDNorth, their full spectrum includes CBG, THCV and CBDV. Here is a bit more information on these additional cannabinoids:

  • CBG may help in regulating sleep, controlling pain and helping with inflammation
  • THCV has been dubbed the “diet weed” however research is still unclear on if this cannabinoid is truly an appetite suppressant. THCV may help with reducing anxiety and enhancing mood.
  • CBDV may help with pain, inflammation, and skincare

More about my experience with CBDNorth

I first found CBDNorth when I was watching an Instagram video on Full Spectrum CBD, however it was an American company being advertised, so I had to research where I could find Full Spectrum in Canada. That was my first introduction to CBDNorth.

The company uses hemp plants, rather than marijuana, which means you won’t get high using their product which is important to me. Both marijuana and hemp are the same plant, but are different strains and you can’t get high from hemp, regardless of how much of it you consume. I find this to be incredibly important as I want to ensure that my mind is clear and that I can go about my day (including driving) safely.

Along with their Full Spectrum CBD, I also use their gummies, pain stick and their lotion. Below are provide my personal experiences with each of the products that I have bought.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil

The oil is the main product that I use, with the other products being a complement to what the oil can accomplish. I use the oil for pain management, to help me fall asleep, and to calm my anxiety. I even use it if I’m feeling crabby and want to get in a better mood. It’s surprising just how fast it works and how effective it is. I love that it can calm me down so that I can continue on with my day, and it helps me get a restful sleep, especially if I am worried about something that is coming up the next day. My only wish is that I could travel with my oil to help me with airports and jetlag.. but of course it isn’t legal most places. So sad.

The most difficult part with the oil is finding the right dosage that works for you, and the right frequency. It will taste like cannabis, so if you don’t like the taste you may want to try mixing it with something else, but I find the taste goes away fairly quickly.

Since first trying CBDNorth I’ve gotten CBD Oil from the dispensaries and here are the three major differences I’ve found. The first is that CBDNorth has a dropper for the lid so it’s super easy to take it, vs other brands I’ve bought have a syringe that comes with the bottle. I hate having to store the bottle and the syringe separately and I just don’t like the process of filling it and using it. The second is that the CBD from the dispensaries taste SO STRONG of cannabis, it’s really off-putting. It’s hard to get the taste out of your mouth. The third, and most important, difference is I don’t find it works as well as CBDNorth does. It works, I just don’t find it to be quite as effective.

You can shop their Full Spectrum CBD here. In addition to their Full Spectrum oil, they also sell a CBD Isolate oil, and a CBD oil for sleep that includes melatonin (however I don’t find the sleep one to be very effective). You can find the full selection of their oils here.

CBD Lotion

Ok, I have a secret. I use this lotion way too often. I actually use it just on dry skin, but I don’t mind because it helps keep some level of CBD in my system to help keep me calm and happy. At the time of this writing, CBDNorth gives a free lotion away with orders over $200 so I often replenish my lotion this way, however I would never hesitate to buy it.

When I am feeling really anxious, I’ll use the lotion on my upper chest to help calm my nerves and it does a brilliant job. I have shared the lotion with friends and family when they come over and have had some fun experiences with it. One evening I was telling my cousins about the lotion and one of them wanted to try it for himself. He had hit his hand with a hammer and it was aching so he figured it would be the perfect test spot. He was honestly confused how quickly it worked to take the ache away. Another time I suggested to my dad that he should use it on his chest because he was sick and had been coughing a lot. Now he uses it on his chest any time he gets sick to help relieve the coughing and it allows him to fall asleep at night.

Their creams come in three different scents; lavender, vanilla and scentless. Right now the rose is my favourite but I am also a big fan of the vanilla. I’m also sensitive to scents and don’t have trouble with these lotions because they use essential oils, however scentless is always a great option! You can shop their Pain Cream here.

CBD Gummies

I don’t buy the gummies often because I have to share them with my partner and they go quickly and can be costly. However, they are SUPER effective for helping me fall asleep at night, and help me stay asleep. I use them when I have a lot of stress on my mind that keeps me from going to sleep at a reasonable hour and they work well for this use. Also, they taste just like candy and it’s hard not to eat the entire bag! I do wish they were more affordable because I would absolutely keep them at my bedside consistently, but until then I have to just grab them as a “sleep treat”.

Their gummies come in a variety of flavours but I always stick to the berry flavour because I’m allergic to pineapple and don’t want to take any chances! But you can check out all the flavours and shop their Gummies here.

CBD Pain Stick

I love the idea of the pain stick. You can carry it with you and quickly roll it on when required. I have only tried to use it for headaches and have found it to be mildly useful, however I do tend to get major migraines and even OTC drugs don’t always work for me. One thing that it does contain is menthol so you have to be careful using it around your eyes, or rubbing it in then touching your face as it can burn and be very uncomfortable. I have a friend who uses the pain stick for muscle aches from the gym and she appears to be satisfied with its efficacy.

In comparison to the oils and gummies I don’t find this product to be as useful, but I also am not much of a gym-goer (oops!). If you get sore muscles or want to try it out you can shop their Pain Stick here.

CBD for Pets

Although I have never used it before, they do offer CBD for animals. They offer oil for cats and dogs, as well as dog treats. I have heard that CBD can be helpful for anxious pets during car rides or fireworks, however I haven’t tried it with my cats. I highly recommend doing thorough research on both usage and dosage when using it with your pets, or consulting with your veterinarian. But if you already know your pets dosage you can shop their Pet CBD here.

Here is why I love CBDNorth

So it’s not just their products that I like. It’s the company as a whole. They seem to be super considerate of all people, regardless of their income status. They are determined to offer quality products and want to be able to provide CBD to anyone and allow people with discounts if they need it to access their products. In addition to that they:

  • Are organic
  • Are Canadian
  • Care about accessibility*
  • Are quick to ship
  • Don’t get you high

*At the time of this writing, the company offers a 45% discount – you heard me, 45%! – to a long list of recipients. Low income, long term disability, university/college students, teachers, military, seniors, front line staff (doctors, nurses, paramedics and firefighters) and those who are in critical need. They have a very quick application form on their website for you to apply if you fit in one of these categories.

Important Notes on CBD and CBDNorth

When I first wrote this blog you had to pay CBDNorth by e-transfer, however this has since changed. You can still choose to pay by e-transfer, which appears sketchy at first, but I have never had any issues with them. I remember during my first purchase, I put my faith into the reviews that the company was good. In the end, I made my first purchase and was astounded by how fast they ship the products. Even though I am on the opposite side of the country, I had my CBD products in my hands within just a couple of days. Now they also offer the option of credit card which makes it better if you don’t know the company or would prefer to pay by credit.
