Here at Urban Gardening Canada we’re making it our mission to test out products on your behalf so that you can come here and know exactly where to spend your money. Gardening can be expensive, especially if you’re looking to grow in metal raised beds. So, instead of you having to risk your own money, we’re testing it for you!
At the time of this writing we own 4 different metal raised bed brands that range in price from $50 to $500. So depending on your budget and garden goals, you’ll be able to find a garden that works for you!

FAQ
Does the metal get hot in the summer?
Here in Ottawa, we get hot, stale summer days which makes it the perfect testing ground to see if the metal gardens get hot. Of all of the products listed above, none of them have gotten so hot to the touch that they are uncomfortable or unsafe to touch. However, they are warm to the touch meaning the soil will heat up as well, leading to more evaporation and drier soil.
Is there really a difference between the expensive brands or the Amazon garden?
Yes, there definitely is. I chose to order the cheapest garden I could find on Amazon that still had good reviews and that’s how I landed on that garden. The main difference between this garden and the expensive brands is that the panels are much thinner, the top edge comes with no rubber edging (I added leftovers that we had), and the instructions were minimal. I did get a small garden size (2×4′) so I can’t tell if it would hold up as a larger size garden but overall it is holding up fine. I also can’t confirm exactly what it’s made of other than what’s listed on the Amazon page. Generally, I will try my best to support local companies over large corporations first, if possible but wanted to include this garden because of its affordability.
